History of the Wiarton Propeller Club

Founded in 1949 by local sailors and their families, the Wiarton Propeller Club celebrated the sailors' return and departure with dinners. The Wiarton Propellerettes, formed by the women while the men were away, helped fundraise for the community and the building's maintenance. The club's building, initially a club room, was expanded with a dance hall and continuously renovated. It also hosted community groups and events, including Wiarton Willie. Renamed "The Meeting Place" in 1990, the club still supports scholarships, hockey, and breakfast programs, and its hall hosts fundraisers and events.

Dear Young Friends

We are reaching out to you with a message about an organization that you may not have come across or might have only heard about from older generations. It's time to change that because, especially in the midst of these challenging times, the Wiarton Propeller Club is more relevant than ever, and it's something you should know about.

One remarkable thing about the Wiarton Propeller Club is that it has no religious or national affiliation. We're not concerned with what you believe or who you voted for. What matters most is that we come together to accomplish vital tasks for the greater good of our community.

The Wiarton Propeller Club is continuously working to improve. Just take a look at the list of activities we are involved in to support our community especially for seniors and youth.

About The Propeller Club

The Wiarton Propeller Club objectives and purposes are:

Fostering sports, recreation, healthcare support, community services, and charitable causes within the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

Fundraising for charitable organizations and their respective purposes.

Cultivating an appreciation for boating, sailing, and nautical interests.

Creating social and recreational opportunities for active seniors and youth within the community.

Providing a backup facility for Gateway Haven Long-Term Care and Brightshores Health System - Owen Sound Hospital in emergencies.

Offering enjoyable facilities for members, guests, and other charitable groups.

Assisting individuals with physical and mental disabilities.

Operating and endorsing youth programs and services that promote personal development, civic engagement, and community pride through youth center management and program facilitation.
